Mother Dog and Her 9 Puppies Found Abandoned in a Sealed Box

In a heartbreaking case of animal abandonment, a mother dog and her nine newborn puppies were discovered inside a sealed box at the Puntzi Lake Landfill in British Columbia, Canada. A Good Samaritan who came across the box initially thought nothing of it—until they realized what was inside.

The mother dog, later named Casey, was found in an extremely weak and malnourished state, desperately trying to care for her week-old puppies. With no way to escape, this little family had been left helpless in the sealed box, struggling to survive.

A Desperate Rescue

The kind-hearted individual who found Casey and her puppies immediately rushed them to a veterinary clinic. After receiving urgent medical attention, the family was transferred to the British Columbia Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (BC SPCA).

Since no foster homes were available at the time, the BC SPCA’s Quesnel and District branch stepped in to provide the care they desperately needed. Staff members made sure Casey and her puppies were comfortable, safe, and well-fed.

“No Excuse for Abandonment”

Casey remains gentle yet cautious around her new caregivers, but she is doing a remarkable job caring for her puppies despite her ordeal.

Lorie Chortyk, the general manager of communications for the BC SPCA, strongly condemned this cruel act:

“There is no excuse for simply walking away from a pet and leaving them to die. Abandoning animals is against the law, and individuals can be prosecuted for their crime.”

The BC SPCA is actively searching for the person responsible for abandoning Casey and her puppies.

A Hopeful Future

Although Casey and her puppies aren’t ready for adoption just yet, they will be looking for their forever homes once the puppies reach at least 7 weeks old.

For struggling pet owners, Chortyk urges them to seek help instead of resorting to abandonment:

“There is help available for pet guardians who are struggling to care for their animals. They can reach out to a local rescue or the SPCA instead of abandoning them.”

Casey’s story is a tragic reminder of the importance of responsible pet ownership, but thanks to compassionate rescuers, her story now has a hopeful ending.
